Who can participate?
Anyone can participate! However, we are only able to ship t-shirts throughout the contiguous US. If you order outside the US, we will be unable to process your registration.
Where can I run/walk?
Anywhere! This is your virtual 5K experience, and we want you to complete it wherever you can and want to — sidewalks, paths, treadmill — every mile counts! We ask that participants respect the COVID-19 guidelines that are in place and run where social distancing can be practiced.
When do I need to complete my 5K?
Run, walk, or jog the Edison Park Turkey Trot Virtual 5K any time during registration! Registration is open from September 14-December 1 (Giving Tuesday). You can submit your results on the portal after registration closes.
Do I need to submit results to get a t-shirt?
Your t-shirt will be mailed to you as long as you are registered, but once you complete your 5K, sign in to your account and click "Log Result" and download your personalized finisher’s certificate. Be sure to share any photos from your race on our virtual photo gallery and use the hashtag #EPTURKEYTROT on social media!
How do I track my distance and time?
We accept results on the honor system, but the most accurate tracking is typically via a device with GPS tracking.
Will the streets be affected Thanksgiving morning?
This year, the Edison Park Turkey Trot will be hosted virtually. That means that there will not be street closures the morning of Thanksgiving.
What do the shirts look like?
The committee has chosen a surgical blue color in honor of healthcare workers who have been working the frontlines during this pandemic. We are so grateful for their tireless work during these unprecedented times. We have also included Chicago stars to recognize the strength of our city during 2020. On the back, we have included our sponsors, many who have supported the Turkey Trot since its inception in 1996. We hope you continue to support these businesses who have been impacted by COVID-19. Finally, on the sleeve, we have our beneficiaries for this year: New Hope Community Food Pantry Chicago, St. Paul of the Cross Food Pantry, and meals from local businesses to our healthcare workers.
When will my t-shirt be mailed?
T-shirts will be shipped in increments depending on when you register.
- Registrations between September 14-October 13 will be shipped the week of October 14
- Registrations between October 14-November 1 will be shipped the week of November 2
- Registrations between November 2-November 15 will be shipped the week of November 16
- Registrations between November 16-December 1 will be shipped the week of December 2
**Please register before November 2 to guarantee your t-shirt arrives by Thanksgiving
**There may be delays in shipping with USPS
What do I do if my t-shirt doesn’t fit?
We do not offer any size exchanges post t-shirt shipment — all changes to sizes need to be made prior to confirming registration. We highly recommend that all participants carefully view the sizing chart to ensure you’re ordering the correct size.
Who are the charities for this year?
This year the committee has decided to split the proceeds three ways. We have selected two local food pantries, New Hope Community Food Pantry and St. Paul of the Cross Food Pantry. We will also be donating meals from local restaurants to local healthcare workers.
Will there be a Gobble Gallop this year?
This year, there will not be Gobble Gallop races. However, youth shirts are available under the 5K registration.
Is this a timing chip race or a qualifying race?
No. This run is meant to be a family friendly fun run to raise money for charity.
